Administrative rights¶
Updated May 26, 2025
By default, the user account on the computer used by an employee is a standard, non-admin account.
For specific and valid reasons, administrative rights can be given to a user. Each case must be decided individually and a request be made to your Manager with proper justifications. Once approved, the IT Manager will contact you to convert your user account.
Info
Devs and coders or anyone on the IT team have admin privileges by default.
Users with admin privileges must understand that with privileges comes great responsibilities. They must follow the same rules as everyone else, with the following additions:
- Require permission from the IT Manager to install an application or a service.
- The admin user account must remain in place.
- The user's password will remain the same, and the administrative rights only concern the local user account, none of the services to which they have access to are affected.
- If they create another user for personal use, this user must have standard privileges.
- These administrative rights must be used in the context of performing work-related tasks.
- They understand that they could damage the Operating System or an Application. Therefore, these rights must be exercised with caution.
- If you are unsure if an action will cause negative consequences contact the IT Manager or someone from the Technologies team.
- Administrative rights could be removed if they are abused, or any the previous rules not respected.
