Slack

Updated May 26, 2025

Slack is a messaging app. We use it to communicate within the organization and with our members. The app should already be configured for you (you can use the web version if you prefer).

It should not be used or installed on any other device than the ones provided to you by MobilityData.

Warning

Please note that you represent MobilityData on Slack with your work account. When you leave the company, your account will be suspended and you will lose access to all the data and channels.

In such event, if you wish to create a personal Slack account (or use your new employer's), you must clearly identify your new affiliations in your Slack user name in order to prevent any ambiguity and clearly show you do not speak as a MobilityData employee anymore.

Channels

You will be added to the pertinent private channels in Slack by a member of the executive/operations team, and you can join as many public channels as you want, but we suggest you add at the very least the #gtfs and #mobilitydata channels.

You should be added to the relevant channels following your on-boarding.

How to set a reminder

Set reminders in Slack to help you remember to do certain tasks. You can set a reminder to occur once in the future, or every week, or every month at a certain date, to yourself or in a channel. See examples below.

  1. Type /remind in the message field and select it from the shortcuts menu.
  2. In the message field, enter the details of your reminder following this format: /remind [yourself or #channel] [what] [when].
  3. Send your message to schedule the reminder.

Examples

Here are a few examples. You can type it all in one sentence, Slack will parse the information.

/remind me Update presentation In 10 minutes
/remind #team-design Join the weekly meeting Every Tuesday
/remind #channel Check for updates Every first day of the month

Other Workspaces

You may add other Workspaces to Slack besides MobilityData's, as long as they are relevant to your work.

Slack Apps

There are many apps added to the MobilityData workspace, you can search for them in the Apps section on the bottom left. Already instaled are Google Calendar, Calendly, Giphy and Simple Poll.

Resetting your password

There is no need for a password reset if you use your Google Account to sign in. See Security > SSO (Single Sign-On)
